With the return of college football and the fact that I watched it last night, today's movie you should have seen by now is Necessary Roughness. Necessary Roughness follows the Texas State Fightin Armadillos in their first season after receiving the death penalty (and winning the national championship). New head coach Ed Genero (Hector Elizando) and defensive coordinator Wally Rig (Robert Loggia) must put together a team made up entirely of new players. Just like in any cliche'd sports movie, the team is a rag-tag bunch of guys who normally not be on a Division 1A team. In comes ex-high school football great, the 40-year old Paul Blake (played wonderfully by Scott Bakula). Due to academic issues, the team is limited to only about 13-14 players, thus causing them to play ironman football. The team adds to important pieces to the puzzle in professor Andre Krimm (Sinbad) and women's soccer player Lucy Draper (Kathy Ireland).
This movie truly has everything you could want. Some of the highlights:
1. Scott Bakula playing quarterback
2. Kathy Ireland at her utmost hottest
3. Sinbad playing a guy getting a PHD, who supposedly has one year of eligibility left
4. The best barroom brawl this side of Road House
5. A dude with a flattop actually nicknamed "Flattop"
6. Rob Schneider as the best PA announcer this side of Bob Uecker in Major League
7. The convict team made up of Dick Butkus, Earl Campbell, Roger Craig, Ben Davidson, Tony Dorsett, Evander Holyfield, Ed "Too Tall" Jones, Jim Kelly, Jerry Rice, Herschel Walker and Randy White
8. The great Larry Miller as a$$hole Dean Elias
9. Future President Fred Thompson as the President of Texas State
10. In the first game, they played Southwest Texas State, who are now known as Texas State
11. The referee announcing each of the personal fouls committed by Eric "Samorai" Hansen in the final game.
12. Jason Bateman
13. Welcome to Foot-Ball!!!
