V for Vendetta - movie review

"Remember, remember the 5th of November." Just one of the memorable lines Hugo Weaving simply nailed in this fantastic movie. One of the greatest things about V was just how amazing Weaving was as the titular character despite spending the entire movie behind a mask. The fact he was able to show so much emotion speaks wonderfully for both the script and the actor. This movie had action, drama, some history, a totalitarian government, a badass hero, a fantastic heroine and just enough special effects to help the story along. Thankfully, the Wachowski brothers learned from the Matrix sequels that what makes the movie is the script and acting, not the cool things you can do with a camera. There were a lot of quick edits, but no more so than the average Tony Scott film (see Man on Fire and Domino). Even though it was clear who was good and who was bad, the movie kept you guessing what was going to truly happen. I can't say enough about the acting in this movie from Weaving to Natalie Portman to Stephen Rea to John Hurt and the rest of actors. The script was also amazing. Even in the slow parts, the movie provided both questions and answers, each of which moved the story along. All around good stuff. I had been waiting to see this movie for a very long time and it didn't disappoint.

"If our own government was responsible for the deaths of a hundred thousand people... would you really want to know?"
