What a Weekend!!!

Wow! I literally had one of the greatest weekends ever.

Friday - Got a project done that I had been working on all week long. Then, got out of work at a decent hour, got wings and saw a great movie (Waiting).

Saturday - Left Houston around 11 and drove to Lafayette, Louisiana to check out the University of Houston take on Tulane. Upon our arrival there, went to Olde Tyme Grocery where Moreno and I took in some fantastic shrimp po boys. Afterwards, we drove to Cajun Field and tailgated for a few hours prior to kickoff. The game started around 5:15 and a few minutes later, Houston had a 7-0 lead. Tulane eventually tied it up, but Houston exploded in the third quarter for 21 points. Final score, Houston 35 - Tulane 14. Also, on the drive back, we found out that the Houston Astros won the all-important Game 3 of the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves.

Sunday - I finally got around to doing some food shopping. My refrigerator up to this point had the following contents: (1) part of a gallon jug of water, (2) a 20 oz. bottle of water, (3) ketchup, (4) mustard, and (5) that ridiculously hot, bright red chili sauce that you find at some Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai restaurants. I am now fully stocked. After unpacking my car, I sat down to watch what was supposed to be a 9-inning game between the Astros and Braves. Upon Adam LaRoche's grand slam, I started channel surfing between the game and the Texans-Titans game (considering I am a fan of both). Before I realized it, the baseball game was in the bottom of the 8th and Lance Berkman had just hit a grand slam of his own. Astros were now down 6-5. Astros make it out of the top of the 9th unscathed. Bottom 9, two outs, Bagwell has his batting gloves on, but Brad Ausmus trots out to the plate. I was a tad shocked, but no manager in the majors would ever remove his catcher until he absolutely has too. So Ausmus bats and hits a shot that literally was a home run by a matter of inches. Tie ballgame!!!! The game continued on tied until the bottom of the 18th inning (in essence a double header without a break in between) when Chris Burke, the man who came in to pinch run in the 10th for Lance Berkman, hits a home run into the Crawford Boxes. Game over. Astros win! Roger Clemens picks up the victory in only his second relief appearance. This was the longest playoff game ever - 18 innings and 5 hours and 50-something minutes. The Houston Astros are your 2005 National League Division Series winners and will go on to play St. Louis in the NLCS (where I already have my tickets for Game 4 next Sunday).

What a great weekend!! Now it is back to work.
