In typical Terry Gilliam fashion, this film was stunningly beautiful, though a somewhat simple storyline. Matt Damon and Heath Ledger did admirable jobs as the title characters and as usual, Peter Stormare was simply awesome. What was really cool about this film was how Gilliam used a handful of fairy tales such as Little Red Riding Hood and Hansel & Gretel as smaller, understated characters in the context of the larger film. As many other critics have stated, the movie was a little too dark for children, but I disagree that it was too childish for adults. As mentioned above, the story itself was a tad simplistic, but then again, isn't that what trye fairly tales are all about. I love Gilliam's work and this was no different.
3.5 out of 6 beers.
