Stunningly beautiful. Tim Burton is still a visionary and Johnny Depp was well-cast as the Willy Wonka. Now, I must admit that I was never a big fan of the original, thus making Burton's vision better in my eyes. I enjoyed the performances of each of the children, especially Freddie Highmore aka Charlie. I also loved the back stories of how Wonka found the Oompa Loompas (which were a lot better than the original - those original orange faces still freak me out in a Teletubbies sort of way). I also really don't understand why people didn't like Depp's portrayal. So, he wasn't Gene Wilder. Whoopty-frickin doo! My biggest complaint about the movie was that when the Oompa Loompas were singing, it was very hard to hear the lyrics.
Very enjoyable, but not quite to the level of other movies thus far this summer.
3 beers with a happy hour chocolate martini chaser.
